Golf clubs face a range of challenges in order to maintain their greens to such a high standard, in the past, chemical products were used to treat many of these challenges. However, due to the damaging effects of these products, alongside tighter EU regulations, greenkeepers are looking at more sustainable methods of maintaining their courses.
Many of the problems greenkeepers face are seasonal and can be expected to return each year due to certain weather. A large issue in the spring is Welsh Chafer grubs and Fusarium is a national problem during the autumn and milder months. Both of these problems were previously solved with chemical spraying that damages the soil, the beneficial organisms that live in it and the overall environment. An increasing use of nematodes and biostimulants have shown that an ecological solution is both effective and beneficial to the environment.
Many clubs have adjusted their methods and schedules based on the environmental benefits of their actions. Changing a club’s cutting schedule is enabling them to retain nature trails throughout the course and enabling wildlife to use their regular pathways without having to move through fine-cut areas. All this activity is extremely beneficial for the environment, but it is also producing a drier healthier playing surface.
EcoStim embraces the industry move towards maintaining healthier soil rather than applying chemical fertilisers or regular fungicides.
Ecological Golf
Part of EcoStim’s core ethos is to help improve the ecological environment, specifically within the golf industry. The EcoStim team works closely with partnered golf courses to understand what changes need to be made in order to promote sustainability and increase environmental awareness for groundskeepers.
This year, EcoStim is running the Ecological Top Golf Courses of 2019. The list seeks to promote clubs that share EcoStim’s passion for ecological sustainability.
Our team of experts conduct interviews with the greenkeepers for select clubs, and will then compile the list with the ecological profile of the club.

Turf Management
EcoStim has been working closely with our partnered golf courses to understand the treatment and problems faced by golf club greenkeepers. We have adjusted our biostimulant based on feedback and results. The S300T will now effectively:
Make tee boxes and greens look greener and more verdant through increased chlorophyll levels
Increase turf resilience to footfall through a larger, denser root mass
Assists with alleviating the Fusarium fungus and reduces scarring
Reduce the amount of maintenance required due to a top growth inhibitor
Turf & Lawn
Stresses to lawns and sports pitches are a real problem for the person maintaining them. EcoStim Turf & Lawn can be used alongside your current maintenance regime to:
- Increase chlorophyll content
- Produce a larger and stronger root mass
- Reduce seed germination time
- Create a denser grass sward
